City Arts
Hoopla!

Best Family Arts Activity Nominee

“My nine month old loved all the music and playing with sensory materials. The organisers make it so welcoming, so friendly and interactive.” – Participant

City Arts worked with families, local service providers, and partner Small Steps Big Changes, to create Hoopla!, an outdoor mini-festival for families with children aged 0-4.

The event brought high quality puppetry, performance and art installations to public parks in four deprived Nottingham neighbourhoods. Stalls for local services provided wraparound support for early years’ families.

City Arts believes that creativity is a human right. They have been collaborating with artists and communities to break down barriers to accessing art and creativity since 1977. They work across artforms, placing people at the heart of all that they do.

City Arts’ Your Place programme is neighbourhood-based, building relationships with communities across parts of Nottingham where there is little or no cultural provision. Whether it’s through festivals and outdoor events, linking up with local community organisations, or offering our own building as a creative gathering place, City Arts aim to bring high-quality culture to neighbourhoods which are denied the opportunity.
