24 Stories of Family Arts

Aspex Portsmouth
Generate

Best Age-Friendly Outreach Nominee

“When she is on her own she gets anxious and depressed. The group really lifts her mood – it is the only group that she attends now. The building is inspiring and light, and the resources and exhibitions are of high quality. It is a place where she feels high self worth.” -Participant’s family member

Generate offers a vital lifeline for the local community. The workshops have been supporting people with dementia and their carers through weekly arts activities that aim to develop its members’ confidence through creativity, whilst reducing social isolation and providing a support network for carers and families who dedicate themselves to their loved ones’ care.

Aspex Portsmouth is a visual arts and educational charity whose mission is to cultivate art, creativity and a collaborative community. They believe art makes our lives better, brings joy, broadens minds, facilitates learning and creates meaningful connections in our communities. They achieve this through free and accessible exhibitions featuring national significance.

Aspex Portsmouth creates opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience contemporary visual art – from looking and discussing, to making and curating. They achieve this by delivering an exciting and varied programme of exhibitions, off-site projects and participation events.

Aspex Portsmouth are both Age-Friendly and Family Arts Standard Holders, catering to a variety of ages and have been running a Family Saturdays programme for over five years. In an informal and welcoming setting, families are encouraged to get creative with their young ones in activities that have been set and curated alongside our artistic programme.
