Singing for Memory

Best Age-Friendly Outreach Nominee

“Not long ago, I sang a solo for a song I had requested… When I first started attending Singing for Memory I was very reserved (wouldn’t say boo to a goose!). Now here I was, singing solo before an audience of 20. The aim of Singing for Memory may be to improve one’s memory, but in my case it has given me confidence and improved my self-worth too” – Participant

Weekly sessions delivered by professional musicians bring together people with dementia and their carers through music, memories, conversation and a cuppa!

Sessions include everything from singing and songwriting, to dancing, or trying out new instruments, so that participants can connect, feel supported and have fun in a safe, joyful space.

darts is Doncaster’s participatory arts charity, working with people across the borough to improve life, learning and health. They deliver unique and inspiring arts opportunities for everyone to take part in, regardless of background, level of need, or ability, so that those experiencing the least access to the arts can experience the most benefit through creative activity.

darts works with people of all ages, from every walk of life, and their programmes are designed to respond directly to local needs as they change and grow. Their work ranges from Early Years provision through Tuneful Chatter, enabling 0-5 year-olds to catch up on developmental delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, to Dance On – a fun, social programme of activity targeting falls prevention in over 50s. Their programmes are designed for the purposes of taking part, working to provide accessible, inspiring and exciting arts opportunities for those facing barriers to engagement – notably at-risk and disabled children and young people, adults experiencing mental ill-health, and those living with dementia.

Their home is The Point – a fully-accessible arts venue in central Doncaster, kitted out with state-of-the-art workshop spaces, a light-filled art gallery and welcoming café and gardens – Doncaster’s space to make and share art.
