Halpern Charitable Foundation: Nucleus Arts
Chat Connect Create

Best Age-Friendly Outreach Nominee

“We don’t ever want to leave the group – because it’s a light in the darkness. This group is the only light in my world.” – Participant

Chat Connect Create was a regular arts/wellbeing group for particularly vulnerable older adults.

Each week, two small groups worked with professional artists to try out new creative activities and experiences, with the planned aim to hold a public art exhibition in their main gallery.

Nucleus Arts’ brand represents the creative objective of the Halpern Charitable Foundation. Since 2002, Nucleus Arts has provided affordable physical spaces for all-aged creative people (regardless of circumstance) to develop their talents, pursue their employability goals and create a supportive community. Alongside this, they are at the forefront of advocating for creative activities to have a place in improving health and wellbeing, collaborating with educational settings, researchers, health providers and local authorities through the provision of high-quality creative activities to enhance existing delivery.

Each year they deliver around 10,000 low-cost or free creative/wellbeing activities for all ages, as well as leading on large-scale community events such as Chatham Carnival and Medway Fun Palace.

Ultimately, they seek and are sought to inspire and transform the lives of people in Medway and Kent by championing the creativity in everyone, including those living with a range of disadvantages and challenges. They achieve this by enabling people to reconnect with their aspirations, develop professional skills, stay well and improve their quality of life through the application of creativity.
