Imaginate
Imagine you’re in a beautiful garden surrounded by shrubs, flowers and trees. Suddenly, you are approached by a beautiful, wandering unicorn whilst, up in the sky, aerial dancers seemingly fly...
This magical world unfolded in several outdoor locations across Edinburgh for Imaginate’s Family Encounter Programme at Edinburgh International Children’s Festival, providing free theatre and dance. The Royal Botanic Garden hosted ten specially commissioned performances with an aerial dance show on 5m high swings, an audio journey with children telling stories about migration and identity; a wandering unicorn; and an interactive travel adventure, a hip-hop performance in a basketball court, a video installation in a public garden, and an adventure quest for families.
The Festival is developed by Imaginate, a Scotland-wide charity that promotes, develops and advocates for theatre and dance for children. Imaginate works with community groups year-round to enable access to the arts for families facing barriers and disadvantages. Partner groups include Multicultural Family Base, Lyra and Refuweegee.
