30 Stories of Family Arts:
Sage Gateshead
As we all made our way through the pandemic, keeping culturally and creatively connected was more important than ever. Sage Gateshead took on the challenge to help families keep connected to the arts, and throughout the lockdowns they provided weekly virtual family music-making sessions for 0-5 years streamed live. They also created four family music videos and held three weekend Half –Term House Parties.
Sage Gateshead’s digital offering enabled families to engage at whatever time and way suited them best. When Gateshead reopened in September 2021, they continued their virtual offer, resumed in-person family sessions, added weekend family sessions, and introduced their Big Family Gig series three times a year. Their committed, highly skilled, and innovative team provided fun, quality sessions with musicality, enjoyment, and connection at their heart.
Sage Gateshead is an international music centre for the North East and wider North. Through music, creative learning and artist development, the organisation shows what music can achieve for communities.
Sage Gateshead has been shortlisted for Best Family Arts Activity in the 2022 Fantastic for Families Awards. Winners will be announced on 16 November 2022 in the free online awards ceremony.
