30 Stories of Family Arts:
Artsdepot

Artsdepot deliver an Older People’s Arts Programme that includes weekly dance & movement classes on-site and off-site, lunch and creative events. Part of their work includes the Upstanding Citizens programme, in response to learning from older people how a bad fall can begin the unwinding of health and confidence. Artsdepot liaised with the Falls Prevention Team, choreographers, and partners who support older people, who helped in the understanding of the relationship between physical health and wellbeing.

Members of their over 60’s dance group noted the importance of human contact/ presence but also sensitive choreography when designing activities for older people.  Their service has been funded by the NHS and co-designed by a physiotherapist and choreographer – providing confidence of quality and ensuring broad accessibility.

Artsdepot is a cultural and community hub welcoming 160,000+ visits annually for a broad creative programme with a strong focus on family entertainment. They believe in the power of the arts to transform their communities and deliver an impactful programme of community engagement and access projects targeting disadvantaged groups and those least likely to access arts and creativity. Priority areas include young people with disabilities, those excluded from mainstream school, and not in education, employment, or training.

Artsdepot has been shortlisted for Best Age-Friendly Outreach in the 2022 Fantastic for Families Awards. Winners will be announced on 16 November 2022 in the free online awards ceremony.
