Shortlisted for 2022 Awards

30 Stories of Family Arts:
Colchester + Ipswich Museums

During half term, in February 2022, Ipswich Jobcentre Plus came alive with Joy at the Jobcentre, a programme running in February half-term 2022. Dance East, Rock Paper Scissors, Ipswich Museums, Suffolk Family Carers, New Wolsey Theatre, Suffolk Libraries, Britten Pears Arts, EMBL’s, European Bioinformatics Institute, Art Eat, and Kimmy’s Zoo all joined the fun.

Joy at the Jobcentre supported families from lower socio-economic backgrounds and those who were identified as especially vulnerable by Suffolk County Council. Activities included museum object handling, arts and crafts activities, puppet shows, music workshops and storytelling, free books, and craft supplies to take home and many other fun activities.

Colchester + Ipswich Museums is a local authority partnership between Colchester Borough Council and Ipswich Borough Council. It unites six significant venues: Colchester Castle, the Natural History Museum and Hollytrees Museum in Colchester and in Ipswich, Ipswich Museum, Ipswich Art Gallery and Christchurch Mansion. The service is the largest in both Suffolk and Essex and plays a high-profile role in the East of England.

Colchester + Ipswich Museums have been shortlisted for the Audience Impact & Innovation Award in the 2022 Fantastic for Families Awards. Winners will be announced on 16 November 2022 in the free online awards ceremony.
