Family Arts Leadership
Symposium 2023

Exploring leadership approaches to increase
creative and cultural experiences for families.

Family Arts Campaign are delighted to announce our third national Leadership Symposium, ‘Family Arts Leadership Symposium: Collaboration, Connection and Communities’ will take place on Thursday 22 June 2023, 10.30am – 5pm at Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) in Birmingham.

The event will present an opportunity for senior leaders from across the UK to discuss, learn and explore key issues facing the family arts sector in the present and future.

In this event we will…

● Explore the challenges facing families to discuss how cultural leaders can affect change to increase and improve opportunities
● Discuss ways in which you can collaborate with non-arts and community partners to connect with underserved and under-reached families
● Help you to connect with like-minded senior leaders both on a national and regional level
● Provide an opportunity to be a key part of supporting the changes needed in the cultural sector to improve family engagement

Leadership Symposium Programme

Collaborating under pressure

By working with influential partners and families, how can we re-think co-creation?

Families of all sizes and shapes are under pressure. Many cultural organisations feel under pressure. How might arts and family / care sectors collaborate to relieve the pressure on themselves and families?

Sharing frameworks of creative resilience, Mark Robinson will explore what approaches organisations can take.

Mark Robinson is the founder of Thinking Practice, Author of ‘Tactics for the Tightrope: Creative Resilience For Creative Communities’ and previous Executive Director, North East at Arts Council England.

How can we better serve families in our communities?

What could you do to further develop your social practice and better understand the needs of families in your community?

During this discussion, our panellists will share their insights and experiences working in their local communities to help you interrogate your own social practice. This session looks towards future change, supporting you to better understand and support families in your region.

Chaired by:
Josie Moon, writer, educator and arts practitioner
Panellists:
Lisa Smith, Strategic Service Manager, NSPCC
Zoë Challenor, Founder & Director, B’Opera
Anita Shervington, founder of BLAST Fest

How can we make better connections to support more families?

Meet with other key leaders from across the UK, all working to provide creative opportunities for families. This session invites you to join a round table discussion, offering opportunities to network, make meaningful connections, discuss challenges and ways of working together.

Led by Annabel Turpin, Chief Executive & Artistic Director of ARC in Stockton on Tees and Co-Director of Future Arts Centres.
